Biography

Grammy-winning, and 11-time Grammy-nominated mix engineer Jason Goldstein began his music biz career as a teen, sandblasting floors, washing dishes, and running errands at LA’s famed Ocean Way Studios. In 20 years, he’s become one of the most in-demand hit makers in the contemporary R&B/hip-hop scene, esteemed for his work with Beyoncé Knowles, Jay Z, and The Roots, among many others. His unique perspective gleaned from having an old-school analog foundation, and an intrepid pioneering spirit with technology (he worked on the first digital console) has made him a valuable ally with companies such as Avid, JBL and AKG.

Goldstein’s humility and commitment to the integrity of the work keeps him a top-choice collaborator with artists, producers, and gear companies. Today, Goldstein works mainly out of Downtown Music Studios in New York and teaches a mix engineering course at NYU.

Product Reviews

  • Does exactly what it says in a simple interface. I like that there are no graphs, scopes, meters, etc. It forces you to use your ears instead of your eyes (as it should be)!

  • SPL Transient Designer Plus

I've been using the SPL Transient Designer since the hardware unit came out and the plugin version is every bit as good. Punch on demand, what more can you ask for!

  • Brainworx bx_digital V3

The bx_digital V2 has been go-to mix buss EQ for the last 3 years. It allows me to sculpt the sound of my mixes in so many ways that there isn't enough room to list them all here. I don't think I could mix without it.

  • PA FREE bx_meter

The bx_meter is an invaluable tool. I use it to get my mixes competitively loud without sacrificing punch and dynamic range.

  • Brainworx bx_console N

The bx_console N is one of the best channel strips on the market today. It has a very "musical" EQ and compression just like the console it was modelled after.

  • Brainworx bx_console Focusrite SC

I was fortunate to work on one of these incredible sounding consoles on a regular basis. They had such a clean, tight and punchy low end with highs that seemed to go on for days...And now it's just a click away!
