Over his nearly decade-long career, Michael Stein has proven himself adept at many different elements of musicianship.
As a composer, producer, and mixing engineer, Michael Stein has played a significant part in influencing the sound of acts such as S U R V I V E, Boan, Sleep∞Over and many more.
It is for his work on the score for three seasons of hit Netflix show Stranger Things that Stein has received much praise in recent years. The iconic theme tune for the show garnered a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music, as well as two Grammy nominations for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, an ASCAP Composers’ Choice Award nomination for TV Composer(s) of the Year, and a World Soundtrack Award nomination for TV Composer(s) of the Year.
Stein’s branch out into composing has been adventurous, and 2018 saw him explore the world of Virtual Reality with the Darren Aronofsky-produced VR series Spheres.
In 2019, Stein scored his first feature-length film: Rashid Johnson’s highly acclaimed directorial debut Native Son. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and was quickly sold to HBO.
In years since Michael has added many more successful film and TV scoring projects to his list of accomplishments while maintaining his efforts in the studio producing, mixing, and songwriting. Most recently adding instrument design to his repertoire creating multi-sampled instruments for composers and music producers available through his company The Protovault.
