After mixing in the box exclusively for 15 years, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the 9000 J plugin. The SL 9000 J was my console of choice for many years and a major part of my mix sound. It was the perfect balance between a SSL G series console and a Neve VR console. This plugin does just the same, it gives you the SSL punch combined with the Neve warmth. I have been using the bx_console SSL 9000 J channel strip and I can clearly tell there are no capacitors in this emulation. It is transparent and there is lots of headroom! The low end extension is amazing and it opens up quite nicely at the top. Very similar to the original board.

The SSL 9000 J channel strip plugin shines on all departments in my opinion. It’s the swiss knife for Hip-hop, R&B, and Pop mixes! The bottom has excellent focus, very detailed with depth and air around the edges. The 9000 J is discreet about its presence and I had no problem getting my mix to sound absolutely huge. It's a true mixing monster!

From the introduction of the console in 1994 to this day, I've felt a real love and passion in the sound that the 9000 J brings to my mixing. I’ve tried out pretty much every SSL plugin from Brainworx already, and have always been impressed with how they’ve managed to get it sounding so close to the original SSL board. After loading it in, it took me straight back to ’97 and I instantly remembered what it was about the SSL that I loved so much. It’s the missing frequency in modern music that you just can’t imitate – it’s ‘the sound of future’s past’. It works on the whole mix, giving you an instant, tight, SSL sound that helps you finish your mixdowns – you know you don’t have to revisit that mix again.

I love how warm and rich I can make something sound with a combination of the TMT, V Gain, EQ and paralleling in the compression. The 9000 J is a Swiss Army knife that eliminates the need for a long plugin chain.

When I first heard about this plugin I was curious just how much adding yet another analog emulation would mean to my workflow. When I first instantiated the bx_console SSL9000 J in my DAW I was blown away by how much instant energy and excitement was added to whatever channel it was inserted on! The 9000 J is a classic desk, sooooo many hits have run through that console. This plugin captures the essence of the sheer tonal qualities that the desk offers as well as the advanced functionality. Impact, smoothness, color, character, utility. Now getting on to the processing available! The dynamics section is useful, powerful and energetic. The EQ and filters are musical, smooth, characterful, intent. This channel strip is great for truly shaping the sound in creative ways as well as surgical corrections. I could not be happier to add this plugin to my arsenal and find myself using it on every project.
