The sound of a true legend

The RX1200 is Inphonik’s take on the legendary E-mu SP-1200, an illustrious sampler that was integral to the sound of hip-hop and house music of the early 90s. RX1200 exactingly produces the same sound color that made its hardware counterpart so celebrated: Its distinctive grit, crunch, and warmth, the RX1200 puts the inimitable 12-bit sound into the hands of today’s producers.

Nailing that sound

Besides the obvious 12-bit resolution, the 26.041 kHz sample rate, and the SSM2044 low-pass filter emulation, the aliased down-pitch tuning gives the RX1200 the characteristic lo-fi sound unanimously revered for the SP-1200. The RX1200 is an instrument made for producers who love the sound of the SP-1200 and want to get inspired by manipulating their samples the same way. By loading their samples across 4 banks of 8 pads and moving the faders to tweak their note tuning, mixing volume, and decay envelope, the RX1200 users can dive into a unique performance workflow that inspired many famous producers to craft their hits in the 90s.

Inspiring like no other

Instead of being a carbon copy of the original, the RX1200 boosts a re-imagined interface with a simplified, more accessible learning curve. Borrowing the iconic faders for adjusting the tuning, the volume, and the decay envelope of the samples, the RX1200 provides the immersive sample manipulation that the SP-1200 is famous for.

A streamlined interface

Rather than a 1:1 copy of the SP-1200, the RX1200 is designed as a straightforward instrument with an easy learning curve. Without the onboard sequencer, the RX1200 integrates flawlessly with any DAW, with an accessible workflow centered around sample performance.

A visual sample editor

It would be a shame not to take advantage of your computer mouse. The sample editor makes it easy to browse, truncate, normalize, reverse, loop, and assign sounds across the four banks of 8 pads.

Higher speed for lower fidelity

One famous trick used by SP-1200 owners to save sampling memory was to sample 33 RPM records at 45 RPM, then tune down the sample on the SP-1200. This practice gave beatmakers twice the sampling time but, on the downside, lowered the sound fidelity. Today, it is revered as the “ghetto” sound, as the process highlighted the characteristic lo-fi tones of the SP-1200 and became its signature sound. The RX1200 allows you to raise the speed of your samples from 33 RPM to 45 or 78 RPM to let you enjoy the distinguished sound obtained by lowering the tune fader.

Profusion of samples

On the topic of samples, the RX1200 is shipped with a sound bank of 900+ samples packed in 50 presets. Inphonik will regularly add more presets on the Inphonik website, organized as Collections users can download for free to expand their RX1200 experience.
