Eryck Bry produces and mixes his debut single featuring New York-based Singer-Songwriter Carly Bobis.
The Song
“Villain” was written by Eryck Bry during the lockdown at the height of the pandemic. It is an Electro-Pop song that incorporates elements of Trap music, and draws influence from Pop-Rock and Indie-Pop.
Thematically, the song is about a functional yet complex relationship between two personalities who are bound together till the very end. Despite their differences, they need each other to create a memorable and interesting narrative. Every story needs a villain so the hero can shine.
About Eryck Bry
Eryck Bry is a New York-based music producer, songwriter, recording and mixing engineer. Though he is best known for working on pop, hip-hop, reggae, electronic, and indie projects, Eryck has worked with a diverse clientele across all genres of music and has crafted a unique set of skills allowing him to approach each project differently. His work has been featured in TV shows, commercials, films, and countless records.
About Carly Bobis (Singer)
Carly Bobis is an upcoming pop singer-songwriter from Long Island, New York. She is currently living in NYC actively writing and always reinventing herself. A naturally proficient vocalist with a unique and easily recognizable voice, Carly sings in a style that has mostly gone out of fashion among female pop singers. She exemplifies a raspy tone, sheer power of voice, and a remarkable ability to manipulate vocal color and timbre.
“Villain” highlights Carly’s fierce, soulful-pop voice and showcases her dynamic range that imparts the song’s message exceptionally.
The Session
Eryck produced the song with a mix in mind solely using Plugin Alliance plugins to achieve a dark, edgy and modern vibe. He also introduces movement into the production using panning, sends, and plugin automation.
The 50+ track session includes sample-based drums, 808 bass, guitars, synths, piano, vocal riffs, and chops. The vocal section consists of lead vocals, background vocals, and multilayered harmonies.
Aside from guitars, the song’s production was created using virtual instruments and synths which were later converted to audio. The guitars were recorded via DI using the Diezel VH4 plugin in the choruses; the ENGL E765 RT and ENGL E646 RT plugins were used in the interlude.
All instrumentation was programmed and recorded using Logic Pro in Eryck Bry’s home studio. The vocals were then later recorded with Pro Tools in a recording studio.
